Fans of neo-soul singer D’Angelo hoping for a followup to the excellent and nearly 12-year-oldVoodoo are apparently in luck. In an interview with Pitchfork, longtime D’Angelo collaborator ?uestlove promised a new album that’s “97% done,” and, “at best…in the Smile/There’s a Riot Goin’ On/Miles Davis‘ On the Corner category.” Which is, you know, a pretty good category! For now, we’ve posted a new D’Angelo track — a cover of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” — that ?uestlovetweeted is actually 8 years old and not meant for the album. But new to us! And pretty ingenious. Check it out below.

This New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2011 join us as we bring in the new year at our favorite hotspot, the NEWLY EXPANDED- Poppy Love Smoke. (Downtown Jacksonville)

We promise to resurrect all of the best elements from the old Black Thought Sundays, which, might I add is now called ” Black Thought Live” and we will be at Poppy’s every 4th Saturday of the month. (Yes, I said Saturday!)

This New Year’s Eve though, we decided to get a little naughty with it. I hope you don’t mind. 😉

“So I was thinking… Around this time last year I was gearing up for the release of my album Music Is, I started reflecting on all of the faces that I have seen on my path in this music game. The most obvious thing that I noticed was that most of those smiling faces were always there. They were consistent. They were there when I performed, at Black Thoughts, Funk Fests, other festivals and shows. They were there at the release. They were there when it was time to flood the streets with the cds to help meet sales quotas. They were there when I had bad shows, and tough obstacles to overcome. They were even there when I wasn’t strong enough to perform. They were there at 6:00am in the morning, in the cold, to help shoot my first music videos..

You guys make my dreams attainable. So.. I know we scheduled the video premiere party for March 26 at Poppy’s, but scratch that. I was thinking, I owe you more.
